1. Cable Splicer

 

Job Description:  Perform splicing, inspecting, maintaining, overhauling, repairing and installing splice cases for telephone, coaxial, fiber optic and outside plant cable.  Locate and diagnose signal transmission defects using various test equipment and visual inspection. Use cable splicing and lineman’s tools and related test equipment, ground power equipment, and pressure equipment. Identify house cables and splice locations, identify and re-route telecommunications cabling, including conventional fiber, copper, and air blown fiber (ABF). Tag, spray and relocate communications cables.   

 

Support includes:  Performing line verifications, developing and maintaining a database of customer lines and cable pairs.

 

Special Requirements:  Government Clearances

 

Educational Requirements: 

·        High school graduate or GED

 

Job-related college degree or business/trade technical school diploma or certification: 

Must be certified for splicing of copper or fiber optic cable

At least 5 years experience in customer facing jobs

4 years of experience in splicing, installing, modifying and troubleshooting aerial and underground copper and fiber optic cable.

 

College (2 or 4 year degree in):

Business, Trade or Technical School Diploma/Certification in:

  1. Systems Technician (Senior Telecommunications Technician)

 

Job Description: 

Perform daily maintenance on voice mail and Meridian Option 81, 61 PBX. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot telephone and voice mailboxes as problems arise. Add new users to systems, as required.

 Relocate telephoned within the facility and perform all related wiring changes. Implement new features as they become available.

Maintain telephone equipment inventory, shipping defective material and ordering hardware when necessary.

Install, test, rearrange, remove and maintain inside premise wiring. Install, maintain and test access line for all types of radio, video, microwave, analog, digital and hi-capacity equipment. Install, repair and maintain inside cables, wires and plug-in equipment to connect telecommunication systems and equipment.

 Perform routine maintenance on equipment, as required.  Review, interpret and work with worksheets, service orders, circuit diagrams, blueprints describing nature and location of systems and equipment to be installed and/or repaired.

Perform transmission and operational tests to analyze data and voice circuits. Calibrating and adjusting electronic circuitry.

Work with complex testing devices such as frequency and data signal generators, oscilloscopes, transmission measuring sets, and volt-ohm meters to install and repair telecommunication systems and equipment, including hi-capacity, radio cellular and video.

Keep a detailed written record of all work activity. Move and lift items such as test equipment, ladders, tools and cable reels, generally weighing no more than 100 lbs. Contact customers face-to-face to notify them of work being performed on their lines and when service is restored

 Maintain valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. Stay updated on federal, state and local laws regarding work area protection and permits (D.C. only).

 

Physical Requirements:

·        Must meet weight restrictions to comply with OSHA/Company safety standards

3.  Outside Plant Technician

 

Job Description: 

Perform work operations in connection with providing telephone service. Placing, rearranging and removing outside telephone plant, including aerial, underground, submarine, buried, block and house cables, poles, and associated hardware fixtures and equipment. Trimming trees may also be required.

Connecting wires and cables to terminals and attaching or detaching various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings or poles. Placing terminals and splicing cable. Inspecting, repairing and maintaining wire and cables and poles.

Operate construction type equipment, such as winches, chain saws, hydraulic aerial lifts, and using large hand tools in placing wires and related materials. Moving and/or lifting items such as ladders, tools, air tanks, cable reels, and test equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.

Climbing poles, entering tunnels, buildings, trenches or manholes to accomplish job tasks. Read and interpret engineering plans. Dig holes, placing poles, laying cable and conduit in the ground, unrolling cable, and pulling and stringing wire and cable from pole to pole. 

Use test equipment to check for gas in manholes and may have to empty water and other debris from manholes.  Operate company motor vehicles of varying gross weights which may be used to tow auxiliary equipment and supplies such as poles, cable reels, generator pumps, etc.

Locating buried underground cable and wire may be required. Interact with outside technicians in joint use and/or emergency operations. Completing all related administrative paperwork, time sheets, BARRS updates, etc. 

 

Physical Requirements:

·        Must meet weight restrictions to comply with OSHA/Company safety standards

·        Where a Commercial Driver's License is required, the applicant must pass an alcohol and drug test

·        Must have the ability to lift, carry and/or maneuver heavy equipment including manhole covers, cable reels, pumps, guards and platform planking; ability to remove ladder from truck; carry, raise, climb and descend ladder and place ladder on truck.

·        A valid state driver's license is required. Must have ability to drive vehicle with manual gearshift.

o       Must meet applicable federal and state standards for operating the size vehicles covered by this job title.

o       A Commercial Driver's License, CLASS A (CDL-A) is required. To obtain the CDL-A license, the applicant must qualify on the Department of Transportation's CDL license physical, written, and skills qualifications tests.

4. Storekeeper

Job Description:

Directly responsible for the receipt and delivery of equipment, expediting shipments, invoice payments, and error resolution based on the customer’s date due requirements. Interface with our external Federal customers, vendors, and internal customers.

Utilize legacy systems, Costpoint, and Service@Once to process orders to closure. In addition, responsible for ordering and receiving equipment and supplies, to include unloading trucks, tracking and stocking inventory, staging equipment for delivery, and delivery of equipment directly to the customer for signature.

Handle repairs and returns, which includes pulling stock for trouble tickets and stocking repair trucks, process and coordinate repairs and returns with vendors each with their own procedure, verify warranty and billing information to ensure accuracy, and order and maintain stock of specialty items.

Responsible for orders received from Purchasing, to include researching discrepancies, verifying equipment status, receipting in Costpoint, closing orders and forwarding to WITS2001 close group and finance, and invoice error resolution.

 

Required to perform the following duties under the WITS2001 Contract:

(1) Assign and track barcodes/serial numbers on all equipment delivered to our customers,

(2) Maintain GAO’s defective equipment and repair inventory separately from WITS2001 for tracking purposes, and

(3) Order and stock spare equipment. In addition, manage the inventory on all projects, the LAN Team’s inventory, the overstock area, the emergency equipment stock, the logistics passive and active stock inventory, and processes scrap items for credit. Locate and source to vendors that supply discontinued equipment according to customer’s needs and requirements.

 

Requirements:

·        Ability to move and lift items, generally weighing no more than 100 lbs.

·        Where driving is required, a candidate must have a valid state driver's license and satisfactory driving record.

·        Must have an ability to drive manual shift vehicles.

·        Must be able to perceive differences in wire and cable colors.

·        Must follow established safety practices and guidelines.

·        Adhere to strict regulations and procedures for the security of Company property and funds.

 

Educational Requirements: 

·        Minimum 5 years experience in storeroom administration and operations is desirable.  Experience using personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite is desirable.
