Fellowship Description:

NRDC is seeking a recent law school graduate to be a Charles Koob Legal Fellow.  This two-year position is available starting in September 2010.  The Fellow will join a staff of lawyers, scientists, policy analysts, and support staff who work to protect public health and the environment through advocacy and education. He or she will work on primarily federal court litigation to address a variety of significant environmental problems, which may range from air and water pollution, to threats to fisheries, forests, and other natural resources, to global warming, to environmental injustices.  NRDC represents both its own members and outside clients, sometimes including neighborhood associations, regional grassroots organizations, and environmental, labor, and public health groups.

 

Essential Functions:

The Fellow will work in NRDC’s twelve-member Litigation Team under the direction of senior litigators and with other NRDC scientists, program attorneys, and experts.  The work will encompass all phases of litigation, from case development through trial and appeals.  The Fellow may also engage in some administrative advocacy and policy and legislative analysis.

 

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

The successful candidate will have graduated from law school within the past three years.  Exceptional legal writing and analytical skills are required.  Relevant litigation experience, such as a federal court clerkship, is a plus, as is a demonstrated commitment to public service or public-interest lawyering.

 

Location:  The fellowship will be based in either NRDC's San Francisco or Washington, DC, office.  We will do our best to honor an applicant's location preference.
