Director, Marine Operations Hours: Varied
Position requires 10 years combined Shipboard experience as Deck officer, preferred as Captain or 10 years combined Shore side experience in Director of Marine Ops, a Nautical or Marine Engineering degree is required; Certified Class 1 Captain preferred. Responsible to ensure safe, economical and reliable marine operation of the company ships. Operational contact with the ships in nautical and marine matters. Shipboard training and development Shipboard safety matters. Candidate must be detail oriented, possess excellent analytical, organizational and English verbal/written communication skills. Must also be able to work in a fast-paced multi-tasked dynamic environment, and be highly proficient in Microsoft office. You must be able to work a flexible schedule possibly including evenings, weekends and holidays, and able to and comfortable with domestic/international travel, up to 35%.
Responsibilities include:
· Ensuring safe marine operation and a safe working environment on all ships.
· Ensuring proper liaison with ship Master and flag state, port state and other authorities with respect to ships trading certificates as list in AMOS, and in marine safety matters.
· Take part in Human Resources related issues for the Onboard Deck Departments, regarding promotions, appointments and annually appraise Senior Deck officers.
· In charge of Navigational Policies and Bridge procedures to ensure correct and safe operation of the company fleet.
· Responsible for LSA, Fire Fighting, Damage Control and Evacuation standards of policies, plans and procedures on all vessels.
· Visiting their assigned ships to monitor compliance, in all ship departments, with the Safety Management System.
· Represent the company at industry forums, working committees and conferences relating to operational safety and emergency readiness.
· Process owner of the company’s shoreside emergency response and preparedness to a shipboard incident, including planning and execution of drills. Including development of appropriate plans and oversight of the emergency response room and associated facilities.
